FINALLY in The Big Apple

Before we start this story we would like to introduce ourselves. Our names are Ashley and Courtney and we are hairstylists. We met in beauty school and shortly after that became very close and have been wreaking havoc in Milwaukee ever since. On that note, we got an amazing opportunity to take a styling class in January at the Aveda Advanced Academy in NYC that allowed us to come back to do hair at Fashion Week.

Now for the good stuff...

So of course our flight was cancelled, then delayed, then delayed again. When we finally made it here the chaos instantly began! Since we were already two hours late to do our first show, we went straight from the airport to Bryant Park. When we arrived at the tents lugging around our dorky oriental patterned luggage we had to be redirected about five times on where to go. This led to tripping, running and screaming, and scaring photographers and socialites out of our path. We found the tent and were quickly moved and frisked to our area. Our first was Ports 1961.

The atmosphere backstage is hard to describe..as one stylist put it "You have to be fast paced to survive."

Heres just a glimpse of some of the craziness.

Every so often you would hear the producer scream out "20 minutes!" "10 minutes and we still have 3 more models to start!" Models were showing up 10-15 minutes before show time. There was press EVERYWHERE. The lead stylist was doing T.V interviews and photographers were constantly snapping pictures in our faces (which will probably lead to embarrassing sweaty pictures of us on the internet.) As all of the stylists were finishing up their models, the lineup announcement was made. We finished early and got to go peek in the dressing area to see the final lineup.

If you think that was cool, WATCHING the show was actually better. Yes...we got to watch the show and sit in a REAL seat. ...Even if it was in the back row.

Although our first day in New York was completely crazy, it was totally worth it. We look forward to documenting more of our trip with you!

P.S. Rest in peace Alexander McQueen. A true legend.

Congratulations Ashley & Courtney - The hair is looking great! I have two good friends that photograph fashion week and they LOVE recounting stories about surviving in that amazing "you have to be fast paced to survive" concrete jungle.
