Ashley Goes It Alone for Leanne Marshall and Marisol Henriquez

The day following the AAU show I, Ashley had two shows to work without my partner in crime. After getting slightly lost near Union Square I relied on my friend Gina from Minneapolis to help me find my way. Once I arrived at the venue we quickly learned the look and models started filing in. The first show was for Leanne Marshall, she was the winner of Project Runway about three seasons ago. Of course I was excited because Project Runway is one of my favorite shows.

Considering I kept hearing backstage that Leanne's designs were referred to as "other worldly," I guess that is how one could describe the hair and makeup. The look for the hair was set into large barrel curls then parted down the middle, back combed and pinned up and into place. The makeup speaks for itself. Bold, vibrant, and Avatarish...

After all the models were done, once again I got the pleasure of watching the show. As I walked out to get my spot I noticed many familiar faces of cast members of Project Runway is seasons past and present. I can certainly say that seeing those designers in person got me more excited than seeing any actual celebrities. I guess you could call it an appreciation for true talent and artistry. So yeah, pretty exciting stuff. Here are some pictures of the finished products. Stunning.

Since the next show was directly after this one at the same event that made life easy. So for Marisol's show the looks was simple and pretty. To summarize we took a side part and put the hair in a sleek, but not plastered down slick pony. Then we did a six strand flat braid (which sounds really hard but it isn't with the help of another person.) After the braid was in we then pinned in up and brought it over like a chignon. This created a basket weave look. Again, it looks more complicated that it actually was...which I guess is a good thing. This is my model and the finished look.

After all the models were done, I decided to sneak out of the show early and meet my good friends for a Valentines Day dinner in Meatpacking. We went to Vento (which happened to be closing down the next day) for some great red wine and pasta. The perfect ending to a hard days work at Fashion week. I guess you could say I got to spend my Valentines day with my one true love in the world...New York City.
